Archives For opportunity

I’m late getting this post out to you today because — this is a mindset that is really near and dear to my heart. I WROTE A BOOK ABOUT IT. I must admit that I have some AMAZING critical connections. They are working for me even when I don’t have a clue about it.

An interesting set of events happened today. I made a new connection — I hope that we will find the critical things that make our connection matter. And then I re-connected, a few hours later, with a critical connection I had made several years ago. The events that surrounded these two meetings really through me for a loop. It was if I were having one seamless conversation but with two different people at different times.

OK, enough with the riddles. I will keep it simple. The “We Are Connected” mindset encourages you to explore the synergies in all relationships and learn to empower one another.

1) Embrace Everyone 2) Maximize Positive Relationships 3) Build Your Drream Team and 4) Lead with Value.

We Are Connected

How many times have you attended or participated in a networking | social event and exchanged business cards, had general conversation with a person(s), heck you’ve even been invited to or asked to participate in some of their events, etc.? You really thought you’d made a connection, maybe not “critical”, at least a decent one.

Now it’s your turn — you’re sharing with your connections the great news about what’s happening in your business, or at work, you’re asking them to participate in other opportunities to connect and grow, and what do you know? Now they want to be “un-connected”.

I’m going to make a strong statement right here — If you don’t want to “really connect” with folks, because your original intention for connecting was selfish to begin with, then don’t go through the motions. Save your energy and reflect on your original intention for why you are connecting to people. I can assure you you’ll have another chance to meet again, and maybe even on a bigger platform. So to answer the question that relates to this particular instance, NOT to Connect. Save your business cards.

Don't QuitI’m really trying to stay focused on building a platform for my life’s mission, passions, and dreams–and boy it gets really hard sometimes to NOT QUIT!

Thanks to a great transparent leader like Michael Hyatt, Author of Platform (yes, I’m singing his praises — thanks Michael!), you’ll get a sense that you are not alone. Even with his successes, as CEO of a major publishing company, dynamic blogger and podcaster, he’s just as human as I am and he often struggles with the notion of quitting.

As I continue to learn from the best practices of inspiring individuals like Michael Hyatt, Keith Ferrazzi, and others — I realize I’ve got a lot a work to do (personally and from a business perspective) and as long as I open myself up to the possibilities set before me, I can FLY. So here are 3 of the things that I’ve got to remind myself of….so I DON’T QUIT.

  1. I am powerful beyond measure — more than adequate
  2. What I desire to do and become is not just for me — the ONE that needs to hear from me is waiting
  3. Concerning myself about yesterday and tomorrow is a waste of time — only NOW is what matters and will have impact

What 3 things do you have to remind yourself of….. so you DON’T QUIT?

Pause2The other day I got a text from a friend of mine that read: Back Home! Great seeing you again! Happy New Year and Happy New YOU! I smiled, took a deep breath in and exhaled allowing myself to embrace the magnitude of that final piece of text: Happy New YOU! If nothing else in 2013, relish in the thought that every day you have a fresh opportunity to be the “New YOU”. Just think about that for a moment ~

I could probably take a whole month describing to you the many opportunities that have been presented to me over the years — I won’t do that. I call myself an Opportunity Catalyst because I am one who always finds an opportunity in most situations and circumstances. I am who I am today because of opportunity.

I’m about to embark on a journey of a lifetime in 2013 and I’m taking you with me whether you want to take that trip or not. I know that may sound a bit cocky — not trying to be. As I grow personally and professionally — if you’re on this site then I’m going to encourage you as I encourage myself every step of the way — it’s just what I do.   MOLA, Opportunity Catalyst
